It's official, alimony fund benefits up

11.12.2024

No longer PLN 500, but a maximum of PLN 1,000 from the alimony fund. This means more support for those people who do not receive alimony from their parents. The law, a draft of which originated in the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, has now been signed by the President.

It's official, alimony fund benefits up

What does it look like today? The alimony fund allows for disbursement of the support to those people who are eligible for alimony from their parents but do not receive it through ineffective enforcement:

  • until they reach the age of 18,
  • until they reach the age of 25 if a person is studying at a school or a university,
  • indefinitely in the case of a severe disability certificate.

Since 2008, i.e. since the beginning of the effectiveness of the Act on Assistance to Persons Eligible for Alimony, the maximum amount of benefits from the alimony fund has remained unchanged at PLN 500. Meanwhile, the cost of living has increased over a dozen years - as has the amount of child alimony adjudicated by the courts.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy's response was to prepare a draft Act increasing the maximum amount of benefits from the alimony fund by 100 per cent, i.e. by PLN 500 - up to PLN 1,000 per month. On 9 December this year, the President signed the law.

Compensation from October 2024.

It is important that the new rules will apply to benefits from the alimony fund due from 1 October 2024. This means the payment of benefits to persons eligible with a compensation from 1 October this year.
