Millions in Support of Social and Professional Rehabilitation in a Fight Against COVID-19

The agreement with the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled People for the implementation of the “Safe Occupational Therapy Workshops and the Social and Occupational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities” was signed in the office of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy on Friday, August 7th The main objective of the project was to ensure the protection of the health and life of the participants of the classes conducted by the Occupational Therapy Workshops within the scope of the tasks commissioned by the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People.
The event was attended by the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Marlena Maląg, the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak and the President of the Management board of the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People Krzysztof Michałkiewicz.
Over PLN 17.3 billion under the European Social Fund and the State Treasury will be allocated under the project for the purchase of the required personal protective equipment: masks, visors, gloves or disinfectants.
The support fund will be available to all institutions which run occupational therapy workshops - including local governments and non-governmental organisations, as well as the entities which have concluded agreements with the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People for direct work with disabled people in 2020.
The support will cover approximately 970 entities carrying out occupational therapy workshops which employ nearly 21.5 thousand people.
Care for the People with Disabilities During the Pandemic
During the briefing, Minister Maląg has stressed that the existing support under the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People as well as the quick and effective actions of the government allowed to ensure the necessary safety to the persons with disabilities as well as their carers. - We did not forget about assisting persons with disabilities. Due to the initiative of the President of the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People Krzysztof Michałkiewicz, the subsidies for the employers of persons with disabilities have increased - said the Minister. Adequate support was also provided to care facilities which remained closed during the pandemic, which prevented them from rendering their services to the people with disabilities.
Minister Maląg has also stressed that the care for the pensioners of social welfare homes, occupational therapy workshops and the participants of the community self-help home was one of the key challenges of the Ministry. - We have successfully met the challenge. The financial assets allocated by from the national budget to the social welfare homes amount to a total of over PLN 50 million. However due to the joint actions taken by Minister Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak and the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy to counteract the negative effects of the pandemic, we were able to transfer over half billion Polish zloty to Social Welfare Homes - she informs.
The Project “Safe Occupational Therapy Workshops and the Social and Occupational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities” will continue until the end of March next year.
