07.06.2022

Minimum salary in 2023. The government has taken a decision

At Tuesday's meeting, the Council of Ministers adopted proposals for the minimum salary and the minimum hourly rate to take effect in 2023. According to the provisions of the Act on Minimum Salary, next year the minimum national salaries will increase twice;

  • from January 2023, the minimum salary will be PLN 3,383, which is PLN 373 more than the minimum salary this year;
  • in July 2023, the minimum salary will be increased to PLN 3,450, i.e. an increase of PLN 440 compared to 2022.

The minimum hourly rate, which is linked to the increase in the minimum salary, will also double;

  • from January 2023 it will be PLN 22.10;
  • and from July it will be PLN 22.50, an increase of 14.2 per cent compared to 2022.

Guarantee of decent earnings

Statutory minimum salaries should guarantee that every worker earns decent money, ensuring adequate quality of life. It is crucial to set the minimum salary in 2023 at an adequate level, which will also make it possible to continue the state's efforts to reduce inflation, says Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

The increase in the minimum salary and the tax changes, above all the reduction of the PIT tax from 17% to 12%, will allow the lowest earners to maintain the purchasing power of their income in the face of the observed rise in prices.

- These changes may also contribute to an increase in domestic demand, which will have a positive impact on the Polish economy at a time when the whole of Europe will be confronted with the multidimensional consequences of the Russian aggression against Ukraine - said Minister Malag.

Government proposal at the Social Dialogue Council

By 15 June, the Council of Ministers will submit to the Social Dialogue Council a proposal for the amount of the minimum salary and the minimum hourly rate. The government estimates that next year the regulations will cover 2.74 million people.

The government is consistently improving the situation of employees who get the lowest salaries. From 1 July 2023, the minimum salary will increase by PLN 1,700 compared to 2015.
