Minister Maląg at Senior Citizens' Day in Ostrów Wielkopolski
12.10.2023
On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on 1 October, Minister Marlena Maląg met with senior citizens from Ostrów Wielkopolski. This holiday is a reminder that seniors are an extremely important social group who bring great value to our lives.
During this meeting, Minister Marlena Maląg outlined the policy towards the elderly pursued by the Government of the Law and Justice Party, but at the same time listened carefully to the voices coming from this group of people.
It is through such meetings the government's senior citizen policy is being developed, the Minister of Family and Social Policy emphasised.
The primary task is to provide financial security for senior citizens. This is done through the valorisation of pension benefits, as well as the introduction of the 13th and 14th pensions into the system on an already permanent basis.
We have allocated approximately PLN 196.5 billion for the valorisation and payment of these benefits between 2019 and 2023 – said Minister Marlena Maląg.
Equally important are programmes ensuring that older people will remain active and have the opportunity to participate in social life. This is the purpose of the "Senior+" programme implemented by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, through which we are supporting the creation and operation of homes and clubs where older people can participate in various activities, meetings and receive specialist support. Between 2015 and 2022, approximately 1.2 thousand support centres have been created in Poland. More than 28,000 seniors benefit from the programme, including in Ostrów Wielkopolski.
This is complemented by the "Active+" programme aimed at NGOs. It comprises nearly 1,150 projects implemented between 2021 and 2023, with almost 710,000 older people benefiting from them.
Minister Marlena Maląg wished the seniors health, energy and strength to enjoy every day.
