Minister Marlena Maląg met with the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania
10.03.2022
Monika Navickienė, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, talked with Minister Marlena Maląg about the situation related to the influx of citizens from war affected Ukraine to our country and the procedures for their admission. She also shared Lithuanian experience in this area.
Minister Navickienė was interested in the Act prepared in Poland on assistance to citizens of Ukraine in connection with the armed conflict in the territory of that country. The Act provides them with full access to the labour market, and thus to family, social, health and education benefits.
We will adjust job offers
As the majority of people arriving to Poland are women with children, it is necessary to expand the network points of care for children below three. Appropriate solutions are also included in the new Act.
In the opinion of Minister Maląg, the greatest challenge related to the labour market will be to change the profile of job seekers. The talks with employers regarding the preparation of appropriate offers are already underway.
Polish solutions
One of the latest measures of the Polish government was the creation of a Reception Point for Minors in Stalowa Wola. It receives, inter alia, children from Ukrainian children’s homes, from foster families with their foster parents. They often require special care. – A thorough check of formalities and registration of arriving children is of key importance from the point of view of their further safety – said Minister Maląg.
Exchange of experience
In order to coordinate the measures in this area, the Ministry of Family established two teams: the „Evacuation of Children” Team and the „Place for Children” Team. Thanks to this, children will first safely reach Poland, and they will be provided with proper care there.
Lithuania is also facing the need to legalise the stay of Ukrainians in its country and to regulate the issue of their social security. Poland became familiar with the current situation in Lithuania, related to the influx of citizens of Ukraine. Experiences and practices used in this area have been exchanged and further cooperation aimed at helping Ukrainians as efficiently as possible has been discussed.
