More than 63,000 people with the “Mother 4+” benefit

29.04.2021

“Mother 4+” is a supplementary parental benefit for those who have devoted themselves (mainly women) to bringing up four, five or more children and thus had to resign from professional career or had to limit their working hours below the threshold required to receive even the minimum pension. This benefit is a certain form of appreciation for parents who have taken on the hardship of raising several children - says Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

Since the beginning of the programme – that is, from March 2019 - by the end of February this year, more than 63,000 people have received the benefit. The Social Insurance Institution has already granted 60,507 benefits, the vast majority of which - around 39,100 - are complementary benefits.

- This means that over 39 thousand people who had the right to obtain the benefit often reconciled their professional duties with raising children for a certain period of time or took up employment when their children grew older – adds Minister Maląg.

2,713 “Mother 4+” benefits have been granted under the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund.

Minister Marlena Maląg, in assessing the operation of the “Mother 4+” programme, emphasised that it was part of the ministry's overarching goal of supporting families. – It allows us to help parents who have less than the minimum pension or no pension at all because they have focused on raising several children – the minister pointed out.

She added that this is the first programme that gives many years of daily work for the family and raising children a huge value. – Until recently, parents and, above all, women, who gave up their jobs to look after their children, were left to their own devices. This changed two years ago, on 1 March 2019, because that's when the “Mother 4+” scheme came into force, introducing a parental supplementary benefit. I am glad that an increasing number of people is using it, because by doing so we are providing them and their loved ones with financial security for the future, the minister added.

The President of the Social Insurance Institution, Professor Gertruda Uścińska estimates that the Social Insurance Institution has managed the processing of applications for parental supplementary benefit very well. Before implementing this task, we trained our personnel accordingly and prepared our IT systems. – From the very beginning of the programme's launch, we noticed a huge interest in the benefit. This shows that such a solution was needed – points out prof. Uścińska.

She noted that the majority of people applying for the “Mother 4+” benefit is between the ages of 60 and 69. We also had people over 99 years old. Men also apply – says the president of the Social Insurance Institution.

The parental supplementary benefit shall be paid upon application by the person concerned once he or she has reached the retirement age of 60 in the case of women and 65 in the case of men. The application should be submitted to a branch of the Social Insurance Institution or a branch of the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund.
