October with the lowest number of unemployed since 1990

The registered unemployment rate in October this year remained at 5% – according to estimates by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. The number of unemployed persons amounted to 767,100 and was the lowest recorded in October since the beginning of the measurement, that is, since 1990.

5% was the rate of registered unemployment at the end of October 2024, as estimated by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy – the same as at the end of September this year and October 2023.

The registered unemployment rate at the end of October 2024 ranged from 3% in the Wielkopolskie Voivodship to 8.4 % in the Podkarpackie Voivodship.

Only in 11 of the 43 poviats where a state of natural disaster was declared, the unemployment rate at the end of October this year was higher than the month before – an increase of 0.1-0.3 percentage points. 21 poviats recorded a fall in the unemployment rate (in the Ząbkowicki poviat by as much as 0.6 percentage points to 9.8%), and in 11 the situation remained unchanged.

Record low number of unemployed in October

According to preliminary data, at the end of October this year, 767.1 thousand unemployed people were registered in labour offices. This is 2.5 thousand less than at the end of September this year and 3.3 thousand less than at the end of October last year.

The number of registered in October unemployed persons is the lowest one since the start of the measurement in 1990.

A total of 69,800 unemployed persons were registered in the 43 poviats where a state of natural disaster caused by flooding was declared, some 0,500 fewer than at the end of September this year.

Unemployment in Poland according to Eurostat

According to data published by Eurostat, Poland remains a country with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the European Union.

Poland's unemployment rate, as defined by Eurostat (unchanged from the previous year and the previous month), reached 2.9% in September. Only the Czech Republic fared better, with an unemployment rate of 2.8%. The highest unemployment rate was recorded in Spain (11.2 %). The average in the EU countries is 5.9% and in the euro area 6.3%.
