PLN 4.9 million to help the homeless

21.10.2022

Fifty-five organisations and entities dealing with social assistance will receive a total of PLN 4.9 million for projects supporting the homeless. The funds have been awarded as part of the “Overcome Homelessness. Support Programme for the Homeless” competition.

4,9 mln zł na pomoc osobom bezdomnym

Before winter, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy announced an additional open competition for proposals under “Overcome Homelessness. Support Programme for the Homeless” – 2022 edition.

The competition committee selected non-governmental organisations that will carry out interventions, run soup kitchens as well as clothing and food distribution points, and provide temporary shelter to the homeless. Support has also been granted to long-term projects, including support in the process of coming out of homelessness. Founding will be granted to 55 entities.

Project objectives

A subsidy ranging from PLN 50,000 to PLN 150,000 could be obtained for the implementation of the competition project.

The main objective of the selected projects is to carry out interventions addressed to the homeless and activate them, in particular, by:

  • carrying out interventions in cooperation with representatives of public services, among others by streetwork addressed to people staying in public space and non-residential places;
  • enabling the homeless to use support offered by interim aid points (e.g. soup kitchens, clothing or food distribution points) and facilities providing temporary shelter;
  • providing comprehensive support in the process of coming out of homelessness in sheltered training flats or through other forms of non-institutional assistance, where people staying there are prepared by specialists to live an independent life or are supported in everyday life.

Who could apply for funds under the programme?

The funds under the programme could be granted to entities providing services for the homeless, i.e. non-governmental organisations and entities whose statutory activity includes social assistance.
