Poland with the lowest unemployment rate in the EU
04.03.2025
Great news from Eurostat! We caught up with the Czech Republic in January this year and, together with our neighbours, ranked first among the EU countries with the lowest level of unemployment. In previous months, we ranked second.
The unemployment rate in Poland calculated according to the Eurostat definition amounted to 2.6% in January this year. This figure is 0.1 percentage point lower than a month ago and 0.4 percentage point lower than in January 2024. For the sake of comparison, the EU average amounted to 5.8% and the average for the Euro area was 6.2% at the time.
In this way, Poland and the Czech Republic ranked first in terms of the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union. Malta was third with unemployment at 3%.
Eurostat data shows that 464,000 people were unemployed in Poland in January this year (according to its definition). There were 474,000 unemployed in December 2024 and 526,000 in January 2024.
The Polish Central Statistical Office confirmed our estimates.
As the Central Statistical Office reported at the end of February, the registered unemployment rate was 5.4% at the end of January 2025, i.e. 0.3 percentage points higher than a month earlier. MFLSP estimates were thus confirmed. The CSO data shows that 837.6 thousand of the unemployed were registered in labour offices in January this year (in December 2024, there were 786.2 thousand).
