Polish-Dutch agreement on workers’ rights

On behalf of Marlena Maląg, the Minister of Family and Social Policy, the Memorandum on cooperation regarding migrant workers was signed today by Deputy Minister Anna Schmidt and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Daphne Bergsma.– This is an important step on the way to the protection of workers’ rights – said Deputy Minister Schmidt.

Polish-Dutch agreement on workers’ rights

The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Family and Social Policy of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on cooperation in the application and enforcement of the provisions regarding migrant workers and cross-border social security, labour and services was signed today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Family. On the part of Poland, it was signed on behalf of Minister Marlena Maląg by the Secretary of State Anna Schmidt, and on the part of the Netherlands by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Daphne Bergsma.

The objective of the agreement is to develop a framework to improve and intensify administrative cooperation with regard to enforcing the labour rules and regulations, in particular, in the fight against the exploitation of workers and self-employed migrant workers from the EU and to guarantee the validity of payment of benefits as well as to fight against fraud, errors and abuse in social security.

– Today, the issue of equal treatment is also the protection of minority rights, so I am glad about this Memorandum, also as the Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Treatment – said Deputy Minister Schmidt. – This applies not only to 4 thousand Polish citizens working in the Netherlands, but also secures the interests of both parties.

Ambassador Daphne Bergsma stressed the close ties between the Polish and Dutch labour markets and stated that Polish workers contribute to the economic development of the Netherlands. She also expressed hope for further cooperation between both countries, not only in the area covered by the agreement signed today.
