Sejm in favour of higher wage subsidies for employees with disabilities
06.12.2024
Supporting the professional activity of persons with disabilities is not only the responsibility of the state, but also a benefit for everyone - both the employees themselves and the employers. The Sejm adopted the Act increasing wage subsidies for employees with disabilities.
Activity, independence, participation in social life and, obviously, the ability to support oneself
and one’s family - work provides us with many benefits. The situation is not different for persons with disabilities, therefore it is so important to support the professional activity of this group.
On Wednesday, the Sejm adopted the Act increasing subsidies for employers to wages of employees with disabilities, a draft of which was prepared at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.
Higher wage subsidies
Subsidies to wages for employees with disabilities were last increased in 2022, despite a steady increase in the minimum wage over that time. This has consequently a negative impact on the employment of persons with disabilities who are more likely to lose their jobs on the open market.
The Act adopted by the Sejm today provides for an increase in the monthly wage subsidy for employees as follows:
- severe degree of disability - PLN 2,760 (previously PLN 2,400)
- moderate degree - PLN 1,550 (previously PLN 1,350)
- light degree - PLN 575 (previously PLN 500)
Additional wage subsidies will also be increased for persons
with disabilities who suffer from the so-called special diseases (e.g. blind people, persons with intellectual disabilities, holistic developmental disorders or epilepsy):
- severe degree of disability - PLN 1,380 (previously PLN 1,200)
- moderate degree - PLN 1,035 (previously PLN 900)
- light degree - PLN 690 (previously PLN 600)
Funds for the increase in wage subsidies for employees with disabilities have been reallocated from the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and will allow for an increase in wage subsidies with compensation from July this year.
Changes important for thousands of workers
At the end of June 2023, the number of persons with disabilities working in the national economy amounted to 477.4 thousand, including 51.5 per cent of women (Statistics Poland data).
In 2023, wage subsidies for employees with disabilities were provided to
32,063 entities. As of June 2023, the number of full-time equivalents (FTEs) of employees for which employers had applied for subsidies was approximately 206.1 thousand.
