– We have spent over PLN 137 billion for protecting jobs under the three shields - anti-crisis, financial and the assistance shield. This allowed us to save over 6 million jobs - informed the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Marlena Maląg during the press briefing held on Thursday. The meeting, attended also by the president of Polish Gas and Oil Company Jerzy Kwieciński, was dedicated to the support for entrepreneurs and the economy during the pandemic.

The cost of the anti-crisis shield alone amounts to over PLN 47.4 billion. Co-financing for wages and salaries amounts to PLN 16.3 billion for the protection of approximately 3.8 million employees. In turn, loans for micro-entrepreneurs - PLN 9.2 billion under 1.85 million loans.

– Protecting jobs was our priority in the fight against the effects of the coronavirus. The anti-crisis shield allowed us to protect over 6 million jobs. The prepared instruments proved effective. That includes over PLN 137 billion in support of, among others, co-financing for wages and salaries, loans for micro-entrepreneurs or idle time benefits - said the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Marlena Maląg during the briefing held on Thursday.

The president of the Polish Gas and Oil Company Jerzy Kwieciński who was present at the briefing informed in turn that the company has spent approximately PLN 40 million to counteract the negative effects of the pandemic. It has also supported the measures implemented by the Polish government, by supporting hospitals, among others.

Stable labour market

The effects of a wide support package are apparent. We can observe that the growth in unemployment rate continues to decelerate each month. In April, the unemployment rate increased by 6.2% in comparison to the previous month, while in July it increased only by 0.3% (in comparison to the preceding month). The estimated registered unemployment rate in August remained unchanged - at 6.1%

– According to Eurostat, Poland ranks second after Czech Republic as the country with the lowest unemployment rate among the European Union Member States – indicated Minister Marlena Maląg.

Increased minimum wage

Increased minimum wage is a manifestation of real care about the well-being of Polish employees and families. In 2021, the minimum wage will increase by PLN 1,050 in comparison to 2015. It will amount to PLN 2,800.  The minimum hourly rate will increase to PLN 18,30.

The increase in the minimum wage planned for the next year will increase the income in households by nearly PLN 3 billion.
