The level of registered unemployment at the end of 2021. The first such situation in more than three decades

Good news from the labour market. For the first time since 1990, the unemployment rate at the end of December was lower than in November. From the estimates of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy it results that at the end of the year there were 895.7 thousand people included in the registers of labour offices.
The registered unemployment rate estimated by the Ministry at the end of 2021 amounted to 5.4%, which means that when compared to the previous month it remained unchanged and in comparison with the end of 2020 it was lower by 0.9%. The registered unemployment rate at the end of 2021 ranged from 3.0% in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship to 8.6% in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship.

From the Ministry’s data, at the end of 2021 there were 150.8 thousand (i.e. 14.4%) fewer unemployed persons in the unemployment registers than the year before.
- When compared to the end of November 2021, the number of unemployed persons in December decreased by 3.1 thousand, i.e. by 0.3%.
- For example, in December 2018 unemployment rose by 1.%, and in December 2019 and 2020 by 2.0%.
When comparing the level of unemployment at the end of 2021 to the state before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of unemployed persons registered with labour offices decreased by 24.2 thousand, i.e. by 2.6%, and the registered unemployment rate was lower by 0.1%. In February 2020, it was 5.5% - states the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg.
In December 2021 (according to preliminary data), employers reported nearly 96 thousand vacancies and places of vocational development to labour offices. Admittedly, this is 17.6 thousand (15.5%) fewer than in November 2021, but 14.7 thousand (18.1%) more than in December 2020.
