The President appointed the Social Affairs Council
– I am convinced that the findings of the Social Affairs Council can be translated into specific actions and then implemented – said Minister Marlena Maląg at the inaugural meeting of this new presidential body, appointed on 6 May. The Council has been composed of outstanding specialists representing various disciplines in the field of social sciences, inter alia: sociologists, educators, economists, political scientists and lawyers. Minister Marlena Maląg attended the ceremony. The Council’s activities will cover all social policy issues of, inter alia, seniors and persons with disabilities.
– The appointment of the Council is a moment to summarise what is already behind us and what we are planning for the future – said Minister Marlena Maląg. – What is functioning more and more efficiently, are Centres for Social Services, created with a strong commitment by local authorities.
Minister Maląg noted that the previous, difficult year, thanks to the anti-crisis and financial shield implemented, resulted in saving many jobs. Those who have lost their jobs anyway could expect a solidarity allowance. She also stressed the role of the Social Insurance Institution in the actions taken to prevent the adverse effects of the pandemic.
– The next term of office entails further challenges, related to the widely understood social policy and the functioning of the social welfare system, where we are preparing for a major reform – said Minister Maląg. She added that she expected cooperation with the Council in this regard. She also declared her readiness to fully cooperate on the part of the government.
