The Senior Citizens’ Support Corps actively helps the elderly

Providing senior citizens with safe functioning in their place of residence is the main goal of the Senior Citizens’ Support Corps. This year, PLN 80 million from the COVID-19 Counteracting Fund has been allocated to this program.
The "Senior Citizens’ Support Corps" program is addressed to people aged 65 and over. Senior citizens who experience problems with independent functioning due to their health condition, support single households or live with relatives who are not able to provide them with sufficient support, can apply for support from this program.
This is the third installment of this program, launched in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It quickly turned out to be an important and necessary form of help for the elderly. Thanks to the commitment and cooperation of the government, volunteers, NGOs and local governments, many senior citizens received the necessary support, says the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg.
Two operational modules are implemented under the Senior Citizens’ Support Corps. The first module assumes providing social support by volunteers who, inter alia, help with shopping, assist with visits with medical specialists and with basic official matters. The assistance also covers the provision of hot meals, food products and packages with basic necessities. As part of this module, seniors can also benefit from psychological support.
The second module is designed to improve the safety and independent functioning of older people in the place of residence, via so-called remote care. This is provided by means of "safety bands". The bands are equipped with at least two selected functions, e.g. a safety button - SOS signal, fall detector, band removal sensor, GPS locator, functions enabling communication with the service center and caregivers or features monitoring basic life functions.
