The Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors Begin Their Mission in Poland

These approaching Christmas will be different from what we are used to. For many people, apart from the loneliness caused by the pandemic, it also proved to be a financial challenge. The Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors were just established in support of the people who are the most in need. It entails nearly one million tons of food and a variety of items that will reach the elderly, homeless or single mothers.
The recent weeks of the operations carried out by the Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors show that establishing the Corps was an important and necessary step. To date, nearly 11,000 volunteers have already declared their willingness to provide assistance by joining the Corps. Over 16,000 people of age reported a need for support.
The Corps are growing; for instance, a virtual voluntary work has been introduced, while in early December – voluntary work of convalescents.
Today, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg announced the introduction of its another component – Solidary Assistance Convoy for the Seniors.
We should take care of others during Christmas
– The upcoming Christmas will be different. We will spend them in the group of our closest relatives, however experiencing longing for those whom we would wish to see. We should remember that many people who live in solitude require help during this time – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday, announcing the launch of the Solidary Assistance Convoy for the Seniors.
The convoy, as the Prime Minister pointed out, involves nearly one million tons of food and various items which will be provided to the elderly, the homeless, but also to mothers with children, for instance. – There will be plenty of such convoys in Poland – Prime Minister Morawiecki stressed.
– To me as the Minister Family, it is important that everyone is adequately secured these Christmas. That is the purpose of the Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors launched over a month ago – Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family and Social Policy said at the press conference.
Broad cooperation is a real aid
As Minister Maląg added, due to the activities and initiative of the Material Reserves Agency, in cooperation with, among other, Caritas Polska and the St. Brother Alberts Assistance Community, broad support for those the most in need will launch today.
As part of the Solidary Assistance Convoy for the Seniors, food packages containing for instance pasta, meat and fish preserves, prepared meals, preserved vegetables, wheat flour, tea and sugar will be sent to those in need.
On the first day, the assistance will be delivered to 4 facilities, which will divide the packages.
