Unemployment at 5 per cent in June

06.07.2023

The good news is coming from the labour market. At the end of June this year, the registered unemployment rate stood at 5 per cent. 'This is less than a month ago and less than in June last year when unemployment was 5.2 per cent. The best result of 2.9 per cent was recorded in Wielkopolska,' points out Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

Unemployment at 5 per cent in June

As estimated by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, the registered unemployment rate at the end of June 2023 was 5 per cent. It is 0.1 percentage points lower than a month ago and lower than in June 2022, when unemployment was 5.2 per cent.

At the end of June this year, 785,000 unemployed people were registered with labour offices. Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed fell by 17.3 thousand people. There were 33.1 thousand (2.2 per cent) fewer unemployed people in the unemployment registers at the end of June this year than at the end of June 2022. It is a decrease of 4 per cent.

'Comparing the level of unemployment at the end of June this year to that at the end of February 2020, i.e. just before the COVID-19 outbreak, the number of registered unemployed fell by 134.9 thousand people - a drop of 14.7 per cent. In turn, the registered unemployment rate today is 0.5 p.p. lower. All this is the best answer to the accusations that the state is not coping with the crisis caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The statistics prove that this is not true and that the measures we have taken have avoided real perturbations on the labour market,' Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg emphasised.

According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Family and Social Policy in June this year, employers reported 100.2 thousand job vacancies and occupational activation places to labour offices. It is 5.4 thousand more than the month before and 4 thousand more than in June 2022.

The most significant number of job vacancies reported to labour offices in June was for production workers, so-called other simple industrial workers, manual packers, so-called other simple industrial workers, warehouse workers, storekeepers, construction workers, salespeople, domestic workers, but not only there were offers were also for office workers, among others.
