Unemployment continues to fall – 5.1 per cent in May

According to estimates from the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, the unemployment rate in Poland was 5.1 per cent in May this year. 'Compared to the previous month, the registered unemployment rate fell by 0.1 p.p. It is the lowest unemployment rate recorded in May in more than 30 years,' Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg said.
Estimates by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy indicate that the registered unemployment rate at the end of May 2023 was 5.1 per cent. It is 0.1 p.p. lower than in April this year and 0.3 p.p. lower than at the end of May 2022.
'Once again, we are witnessing the effectiveness of the instruments introduced by the Law and Justice Government. The measures we have taken effectively protect the Polish labour market and support the entrepreneurship of Poles. The latest data confirm what a hard-working and ambitious nation we are,' Marlena Maląg stressed.
The lowest unemployment rate in Poland was recorded in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship (3 per cent) and the highest (8.6 per cent) in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie and Podkarpackie Voivodeships.
In May this year, 803.6 thousand unemployed people were registered in labour offices. Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed fell by 18.3 (2.2 per cent) thousand people. At the end of May 2023, there were 46.6 thousand (5.5 per cent) fewer unemployed people in unemployment registers than at the end of May 2022.
Employers reported 92.9 thousand job vacancies and occupational activation places to labour offices. It is 11.7 thousand more than in April 2023.

Eurostat data shows we have the lowest unemployment rate in the entire European Union. In April this year, the unemployment rate in Poland and the Czech Republic was 2.7 per cent, compared to 6 per cent in the European Union and 6.5 per cent in the Eurozone.
'It is a vast, historic success, which testifies to the strength of the Polish economy,' Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg stated.
