Unemployment in July lowest in 34 years

5 per cent - this was the rate of registered unemployment at the end of July 2024, as estimated by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. A lower July value of the unemployment rate was last recorded in 1990.

Unemployment in July lowest in 34 years

As estimated by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, the registered unemployment rate at the end of July 2024 was 5%. The indicator has remained unchanged compared to July last year. The lowest unemployment was recorded in the Wielkopolskie (2.9%) and Śląskie (3.6%) voivodeships.

Less people out of work than a year ago

At the end of July this year, 766.4 thousand unemployed people were registered with labour offices. According to preliminary data of the MRPiPS, this is 16,1 thousand less than in the comparable period last year.

In July 2024, employers reported 94,2 thousand job vacancies and occupational activation to labour offices. This is 3,2 thousand more than in July last year. Currently, among others, the manufacturing and construction industries are searching for the highest number of workers.

Poland at the forefront of the EU

According to data published by Eurostat, Poland remains a country with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the European Union.

The unemployment rate in June this year, calculated according to the Eurostat definition, was 3 per cent, compared to 6 per cent in the EU and 6.5 per cent in the euro area. Poland thus ranked second in terms of the lowest unemployment rate in the EU, behind the Czech Republic (2.7 per cent).
