Unemployment lowest in more than three decades
06.07.2022
At the end of June, the registered unemployment rate amounted to 4.9% – estimates the Ministry of Family and Social Policy. Such low unemployment was last recorded 32 years ago.
According to preliminary figures, at the end of June 2022, 819.7 thousand unemployed people were registered with labour offices. This means 30.5 thousand fewer people than the month before and 173.7 thousand fewer people than the year before. For the last time, fewer unemployed people were registered with the registers of labour offices in July 1990. At that time, it was 699 thousand people.
Unemployment is at a much lower level than before the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic, which disturbed the situation in the labour market. Decisive steps of the Polish government – efficiently launched Anti-Crisis Shield instruments and, as a result, multi-billion support for entrepreneurs protected jobs – says the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg. – In the registers of labour offices, we have more than 100 thousand fewer unemployed people than in February 2020, i.e. before the pandemic. This means a decrease by nearly 11%. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points during this period. We saved Poland from returning to the greatest trauma of the times of transformation –enormous unemployment – adds Minister Marlena Maląg.

For more than three decades, there has not been such a good situation in the labour market. Such low unemployment was last recorded 32 years ago. In August 1990, it was 4.5%. We prove that we are a good government for difficult times – says Minister Marlena Maląg.

Thus, Poland occupied the second place, after the Czech Republic (2.5%), in terms of the lowest unemployment rate in the EU.
