Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak: WUF 11 in Katowice is so far the largest and most accessible urban development event worldwide

A report from the World Urban Forum in Katowice (WUF 11) with a focus on accessibility and a review of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development were the main topics of the second session of the UN Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, attended by the Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak.

WUF 11 in Katowice is so far the largest and most accessible urban development event worldwide focusing on development of cities. It was attended by almost 11 thousand people from 155 countries and more than 6 thousand Internet users, including many people with disabilities

The deputy head of the MDFRP also met with UN Habitat executive director. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, as well as a delegation from Egypt, which will organise the World Urban Forum on 4-8 November 2024.

Participants at the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly also discussed the role of enhanced multilateralism in addressing key policy priorities to enable the implementation of sustainable urbanisation.
The starting point of this conversation is the implementation of the New Urban Agenda as a roadmap for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the era of global crisis. Local actions and sustainable urbanisation are essential for global progress in order to tackle inequality, combat climate change or promote peace and security in the world.
On the final day of UN Habitat's plenary session in Nairobi, the Deputy Minister of Deveopment Funds and Regional Policy, Malgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak, took part in a panel entitled “Great challenges of our time”.
Horizontal urban policy principles are now becoming increasingly important. Therefore, the planning and implementation of this policy should take into account its comprehensiveness and the integration of urban actions

An extremely important objective of urban policy is also to make life easier and more accessible for everyone, especially for people with disabilities and seniors - concluded the Deputy Minister, Jarosińska-Jedynak.
