14.09.2023
Safety of residents and drivers, more efficient commuting without the need to drive through the housing estates – this is the aim of the construction of the S1 expressway between Przybędza and Milówka, i.e. the Węgierska Górka bypass. The investment long-awaited by the region’s residents is getting closer to completion. The Minister for Funds and Regional Policy, Grzegorz Puda, participated on Thursday in the operation to finally pierce the last section in the tunnel being excavated in the massif of Barania Góra.
The construction of the S1 bypass section of Węgierska Górka is one of the key projects included in the government’s National Roads Construction Programme.
The bypass of Węgierska Górka is 8.53 km long. The investment is worth approx. PLN 1.4 billion.
Thanks to the use of budgetary resources, the Węgierska Górka bypass, a much-needed investment, will soon be ready. This is a huge benefit, first and foremost, for local residents, who will breathe a sigh of relief and be able to move around their towns and cities safely. It is also a benefit for drivers, who will smoothly merge into transit traffic on the S 1 and bypass town centres
– said Minister for Funds and Regional Policy, Grzegorz Puda.
The minister stressed that once the project is completed and the two sections of the expressway are connected, we will be driving on a much safer road, with a higher permitted speed.
The entire southern section of the S1 will be passable as early as in 2025
– announced G. Puda.
This is another milestone towards the socio-economic development of the region. After a period of advanced work, today we can enjoy another investment, which shows how effectively the road infrastructure in the Śląskie Voivodeship is changing, bringing safety and the expectations of residents and the comfort of travel to the forefront
– says Deputy Voivode Jan Chrząszcz about the completion of the last part of the second tunnel on the S1 section Przybędza-Milówka.
S1 Pyrzowice-Zwardoń to be part of the Trans-European Transport Network corridor
The S1 road is an important route not only for Poland. It is located in Corridor VI of the Trans-European Transport Network, which connects the Baltic Sea countries with the Southern Europe. It connects the A1 motorway at Pyrzowice with the Slovakian border at Zwardoń. The S1 expressway has its natural extension south of the Polish border in the form of the Slovakian D3 motorway from Žilina to Skalite.
The S1 investment on the Przybędza-Milówka section is located in the Śląskie Voivodeship, in the district of Żywiec, within the municipalities: Radziechowy Wieprz, Węgierska Górka, Milówka.
The breaking through of the second tunnel tube under the massif of Barania Góra completed the tunnelling phase of all tunnels. At the end of June, the first tune was pierced, completing the tunnelling towards Zwardoń.
S1 with EU funding
The EU funds for the construction of another section of the S1 road, Oświęcim-Suchy Potok junction, built as part of the project Construction of the S1 expressway section Kosztowy-Bielsko-Biała, will reach nearly PLN 441 million.
Support for road investments in the 2021–2027 perspective
In the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021–2027 programme, the priority in the area of road transport infrastructure is to complete the road corridors included in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
In addition, support will be available for investments involving the construction and extension of roads to connect the national road network with the TEN-T. This also applies to the construction of bypasses on national roads and expressways to relieve towns and cities from excessive road traffic.
Projects involving the construction or reconstruction of motorways, motorways and other national roads will be eligible to apply for funding from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment.
The support will apply to investments across the country. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways will be the main beneficiary of these funds.
