The Deputy Minister, Jadwiga Emilewicz: we are relaunching the PAIH office in Kiev, which will provide assistance to Polish companies operating in Ukraine

05.07.2023

The Polish-Ukrainian economic cooperation in the context of post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, the reopening of the PAIH office in Kiev, Poland's involvement in the work of the Steering Committee of the G7 Donor Coordination Platform, as well as the White Paper identifying problematic issues in PL-UA economic relations - these are the main topics raised by the Government Plenipotentiary for Polish-Ukrainian Development Cooperation, Jadwiga Emilewicz during meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government chaired by Deputy Prime Ministers, Oleksandr Kubrakov and Iryna Vereshchuk in Kiev.

The Deputy Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz we are relaunching the PAIH office in Kiev which will provide assistance to Polish companies operating in Ukraine

The costs associated with the reconstruction of Ukraine are enormous. Already now, according to projections by the World Bank, the European Commission, the UN, but also the Ukrainian government, they are estimated at at least USD 411 billion.

Poland has supported Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian military aggression against the country. We are one of the key donors of aid to Ukraine. In 2022 alone, we earmarked around 1% of the Polish GDP, i.e., approximately PLN 30 billion. Over the past several months we have become a logistics hub for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which will serve as a natural base and create potential for Polish companies in the reconstruction of this country

- stressed the Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Government Plenipotentiary for Polish-Ukrainian Development Cooperation, Jadwiga Emilewicz after talks with the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk.

The region of south-eastern Poland (Przemyśl, Rzeszów), across which the key transport routes to Ukraine run, is a natural transport and logistics hub for conducting activities related to the reconstruction of this country.

We plan to hold a conference in the autumn, during which we intend to work out a detailed offer of business cooperation in this area together with the Ukrainian party. In this context, regular dialogue with chambers of commerce and business associations conducted by me and my colleagues plays a very important role

- added the deputy head of the MDFRP.

Polish economic missions and business support institutions return to Ukraine

During the visit to Ukraine by the Deputy Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz, the office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) in Kiev was also reopened, which will act as a one-stop-shop for companies. Due to the growing interest of Polish entrepreneurs in investment in Ukraine, another point is to be opened in Lviv. These are the first Polish economic missions of this type since the outbreak of full-scale war across our eastern border.

This is the beginning of the consistent and systemic Polish economic presence in Ukraine. PAIH has already been approached by more than 2300 Polish companies expressing their interest in cooperation with Ukrainian partners

- concluded Deputy Minister Emilewicz.

Together with the deputy head of the MDFRP, a strong representation of companies from Poland came to Kiev to attend a joint workshop for Polish and Ukrainian businesses hosted by PAIH, KUKE, BGK, KredoBank and UkraineInvest.
