Celebrating 5 years of GovTech Poland
22.06.2023
This week we ceremoniously summed up the round anniversary of GovTech Poland. The event was inaugurated by Justyna Orlowska, Plenipotentiary of the Prime Minister for GovTech and Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Education and Science for Digital Transformation, and attended by Marshal of the Sejm Ryszard Terlecki, Vice Marshal of the Senate Marek Pęk, Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek, Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Marek Kuchciński, as well as other ministers, partners of our projects, representatives of the state, private sectors and non-governmental institutions.
We help state institutions to implement innovations
In 2017, we organized Europe's largest hackathon! The first HackYeah powered by GovTech Poland gathered more than 100 challenges from companies, local, governmental and non-governmental institutions and more than 1,200 innovative projects and solutions. It was also the first time that a state fiscal institution submitted its challenge in this type of event.
The initiative generated great interest in public administration, and soon - in response to this need - we launched GovTech Competitions. The platform brings together challenges from institutions that (like us) have technology needs.
We are responding to the challenges of pandemics and infodemics
To meet the challenges of the pandemic, we organized another hackathon where IT professionals created effective tools to fight the coronavirus. Thousand people joined the initiative in a few hours. The pandemic was also a time only spent at home, so we decided to start an EDUCATION ACTION. Hours of footage from athletes, artists and educators encouraged to do activity in our homes. We also wanted to support the administration in a huge logistical challenge, so our Team prepared the SEPIS system for the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, which the UN recognized as the best digital response to the pandemic. On the other hand , the infodemia response was #FakeHunter - tool developed on the initiative of the Polish Press Agency to combat fake news. Now, FakeHunter is no longer just an app, but a community of people that develops its idea all the time and has already had several editions of the #FakeHunter Challenge.
We support IT professionals in our region
The events of 2020 in Belarus disposed us to launch a program to facilitate the relocation of IT specialists from that country (and later from other countries in the region) to Poland. Since its beginning , the Poland.Business Harbour program has supported around 800 companies and has issued 85,928 visas to its participants. We’re implementing the task jointly, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Development and Technology, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.
We are developing the Polish creative sector
Polish gamedev is an export worth 6 billion PLN and millions of copies sold around the world every year. We started our friendship with this industry in 2019 with hundreds of people creating games during game jam. To this day, we continue to develop this part of the Polish creative sector by organizing game jams, workshops, educational programs or Polish stands at international trade fairs.
Since games are also an extremely effective way of absorbing new knowledge, in 2022 we introduced them into the curriculum programme. Millions of students can play “This War of Mine” and the “Cipher Game” for free during lessons, thanks to the Games in Education programme.
We are modernizing Poland's education system
As MEiNTech, the innovative solutions sector for the Ministry of Education and Science, we create programs that affect the future of young generations. We have launched Future Labs, a program that supports young talents and prepares students for their future challenges. From the beginning of September 2022, with 16 teams of Mobile Future Labs, we visit schools across the country every day so that students can experience the best educational adventure of their lives. We have also announced a nationwide robotics tournament called League of Robots. In addition, we have introduced a new subject in high schools - Business and Management, which in a practical way supports and develops managerial competence, project work in a group and teaches how to manage one's own finances. We also reactivated a long-forgotten teacher exchange program with the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN in Geneva. Thanks to the “edukacja.gov.pl” project, we also launched the digital change program in education.
GovTech is about people!
Behind every innovation there are people, and behind ours project there were especially many - institutions, representatives of various sectors, administration, business - including the youngest ones - Leaders of the Innovation.
Developed by us programme of The Young Leaders of Innovation, has become the largest internship program in the public sector! To all of those involved in the establishment and development of GovTech throughout the full 5 years, we extend our warmes acknowledgementst THANKS - GovTech is YOU!
