16.06.2024

Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar participated (June 19, 2024) in a conference organized by the European Implementation Network (EIN).

Conference on the Implementation of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights

The topic of the online conference was the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

"For many years, international court judgments regarding the rule of law in Poland were ignored. This is no longer the case. The Ministry of Justice accepts the decisions issued so far by the ECHR in cases against Poland," said Minister Bodnar during his speech.

The minister emphasized that the Ministry of Justice currently upholds citizens' rights and freedoms, adheres to the law, and respects the principles of the rule of law. Additionally, the Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is preparing a draft law on the execution of ECHR judgments, which will ensure that every judgment and decision of the Court is fully and promptly executed. This is part of Poland's Action Plan for restoring the rule of law.

Among the conference speakers were the Dutch Minister of Justice and Security, Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, President of the Board of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, Maciej Nowicki, and Başak Çalı, founder and chair of the European Implementation Network (EIN).

The EIN, based in Strasbourg, serves as a hub for European civil society organizations and facilitates cooperation with the structures of the Council of Europe. The organization collaborates with members and partners – lawyers and civil society organizations – from across the Council of Europe region to advocate for the full and timely implementation of ECHR judgments.
