Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Ejchart Visits The Hague
31.10.2024
On October 31, 2024, Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Ejchart met with representatives of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) in The Hague.
The purpose of the visit was to review the existing cooperation between Poland and the Mechanism in implementing custodial sentences imposed by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on individuals convicted of war crimes during the armed conflict in that region.
Poland’s cooperation with the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals is based on the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the United Nations on the Enforcement of Sentences of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, signed on September 18, 2008.
During today’s meetings, Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Ejchart and representatives of the Mechanism assessed the collaboration in this area. Both parties regard it as highly effective, as confirmed by regular reports prepared by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Poland's active engagement with the Mechanism reflects the country’s commitment to participating in the process of holding individuals accountable for international crimes.
