"The key challenge before me is to build the trust of Polish citizens in state institutions. Democracy and the rule of law in Poland will be as strong as its institutions are," said Deputy Minister Zuzanna Rudzińska-Bluszcz, who represented the Polish justice system at the European Forum Alpbach conference.

The conference, which was attended by, among others, Austrian Minister of Justice Alma Zadić and Jovana Spremo, a representative of the Lawyers' Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM), took place on August 28, 2024, under the theme "Back on Track: Democratic Backsliding and the Challenge of Re-Democratisation."

The discussions focused on the effectiveness of mechanisms used by the European Union to protect the rule of law in member states, highlighting how, in response to the crisis in Poland, new instruments were developed, such as the conditionality mechanism and the publication of annual rule of law reports.

"One of the greatest challenges facing the Polish Ministry of Justice concerns the status of over 2,000 judges who were appointed by the National Council of the Judiciary, which was established in violation of the Polish constitution," the Deputy Minister said.

Zuzanna Rudzińska-Bluszcz also met with scholarship recipients from Club Alpbach Poland and with a delegation from the Federal Ministry of the Interior in Austria, led by Head of Directorate General of Migration and International Affairs, Peter Webinger. They discussed plans related to the upcoming presidency and the positions of both countries in the face of challenges related to migration and integration policies.

The European Forum Alpbach, founded in 1945, is a center for the exchange of economic, political, philosophical, and scientific ideas. For over 70 years, the Forum has annually brought together leading figures from the worlds of science, politics, economics, philosophy, and law. Each year, the program of the European Forum Alpbach is built around a theme that guides the discussions.
