23.07.2024
"At the current stage of the development of judicial cooperation in civil matters, we should focus primarily on ensuring the proper implementation and uniform application of existing regulations throughout the EU," said Deputy Minister of Justice Bartłomiej Ciążyński during the informal meeting of the EU Council on Justice and Home Affairs in Budapest.
As part of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, an informal meeting of justice ministers was held, where representatives of member states debated priority issues in the field of justice. The meeting was chaired by the Hungarian Minister of Justice Bence Tuzson.
During the meeting, which took place on July 23, 2024, topics discussed included cooperation, promoting legal competitiveness and digitalization in the field of justice, as well as regulations and the use of artificial intelligence.
The Deputy Minister also presented Poland's position on the use of artificial intelligence tools. In Poland's view, the greatest potential of AI in the field of justice can be seen in the process of document review and identification of key information, which would significantly speed up the process of preparing cases for court consideration.
Another important aspect of using AI will be increasing access to justice through the creation of chatbots and virtual assistants to help citizens obtain necessary information.
The discussion also covered future priorities for security and judicial cooperation in the next five-year term.
The Justice and Home Affairs Council is responsible for legislative, budgetary, political, and coordination tasks in the area of freedom, security, and justice throughout the European Union. It consists of the justice and home affairs ministers of the EU member states.
