Meeting with Reporters Without Borders

At the headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar met with representatives of the organization Reporters Without Borders on July 11, 2024. The host of the visit was Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Maciej Duszczyk.
The discussions included the issue of SLAPPs (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation), which are lawsuits filed not against an individual but against their public activity. Minister Bodnar highlighted that the current government is working on changing regulations to limit the number of unfounded accusations and eliminate criminal liability for defamation.
The meeting also covered the current legal status, work on implementing the EU Anti-SLAPP directive, Poland's involvement in promoting effective actions against SLAPPs, and the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border concerning journalists' access to the border zone.
Other topics included issues with the National Broadcasting Council, the prevention of disinformation and fake news, and the role of experts on Russian and Belarusian influences. Reporters Without Borders is an international non-profit organization founded in 1985, dedicated to defending and promoting freedom of information.
The World Press Freedom Index 2024 ranked Poland 47th, with a noted decline in press freedom over the past eight years.
