Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar met with the German Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann. The discussions centered on ongoing Polish-German intergovernmental consultations.
During the meeting, Minister Adam Bodnar thanked Minister Marco Buschmann and the German government for supporting efforts to restore the rule of law and constitutional order in Poland. He highlighted the significance of the developing bilateral cooperation between the judicial authorities of both countries.
In the morning session, the Polish and German Justice Ministers discussed and approved the Joint Plan of Action in the area of justice, which will be signed during the Polish-German intergovernmental consultations.
Minister Buschmann emphasized that Germany is paying close attention to Poland's ongoing process of restoring the rule of law and constitutional order. The discussion currently underway in Germany, inspired by Polish reforms, involves introducing changes to the Constitution concerning the Federal Constitutional Court.
The ministers also talked about political priorities for the European Commission, strengthening the justice system in both countries, the role and importance of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, especially in the context of Poland's recent accession to it, and matters related to bilateral and international support for Ukraine.
They jointly expressed the opinion that the upcoming Polish presidency of the EU Council (starting January 1, 2025) will foster closer cooperation.
