"It is a significant fact that we can meet today on August 6, the anniversary of the tragic events that took place in 1945," said Minister Adam Bodnar during a meeting with Minister Koizumi Ryuji. This was a reference to the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Bartłomiej Ciążyński, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Justice, also participated in the talks.

"I join in the Minister's thanks. I am deeply moved that we are meeting today," said Undersecretary of State Bartłomiej Ciążyński, adding that August 6 and 9 are important dates not only for Japan but also for all of humanity and the world.

The main topic of the talks between the two ministers was the consideration of possibilities to strengthen cooperation between Japan and Poland, including in the context of jointly developing effective forms of support for Ukraine. As Minister Koizumi noted, the reconstruction of Ukraine will also require the rebuilding of the rule of law in the country. In addition to the external enemy, which is Russia, Ukraine has also been struggling for years with an internal enemy, which is corruption. In the eyes of the Japanese Minister, Poland is a good example for Japan on how to help Ukraine. Referring to these words, Minister Bodnar emphasized that international cooperation in strengthening the justice system is an absolute priority for Poland. "I hope that after various difficult periods we had in the Ministry of Justice, especially in the context of adhering to the rule of law, we are now returning to the path of genuinely respecting and strengthening international relations," he said.

Since the beginning of Russia's criminal aggression against Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice has been taking actions aimed at identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of these crimes.

Minister Adam Bodnar informed that the Ministry of Justice, together with Polish law enforcement agencies, is taking steps to prevent the impunity of perpetrators of crimes committed in Ukraine and to document them. Additionally, the Polish prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal investigation regarding the war of aggression directed against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of Ukraine.

Undersecretary Ciążyński thanked the Japanese government for its stance on the aggression against Ukraine, which has condemned the Russian attack from the very beginning. "We count on further cooperation, including assistance in the reconstruction of Ukraine, holding the Russian regime accountable, and a common voice on the international stage," added the undersecretary.

Minister Koizumi Ryuji expressed his appreciation for Poland's help to Ukraine since the outbreak of the war. He emphasized that Japan is also engaged in helping Ukraine and wants to develop cooperation with Poland. "The Polish government has done a great thing by accepting and helping 2 million refugees from Ukraine," said Minister Koizumi Ryuji.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their willingness to continue cooperation. Minister Koizumi Ryuji invited Minister Bodnar to pay an official visit to Tokyo to continue the talks.
