Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar participated on June 20, 2024, in an international scientific conference at the University of Freiburg in Germany on the topic of "A Playbook for Reinstating the Rule of Law."
Deputy Minister of Justice Dariusz Mazur participated in the discussion panel dedicated to the practice of transitional processes.
Minister Adam Bodnar emphasized that the invitation to the conference is a recognition of the efforts of the current Polish government to restore democratic standards in Poland. He acknowledged that restoring the rule of law is a gradual process that requires support through academic analysis and reflection.
"I am deeply honored to share my thoughts with such distinguished speakers, particularly Professor Joseph Weiler, whose work on EU constitutionalism is an inexhaustible source of inspiration," said Minister Adam Bodnar at the conference in Freiburg.
The minister outlined the work being conducted by the Ministry of Justice aimed at rebuilding the rule of law in Poland. He expressed hope that his insights would contribute to the creation of the "Playbook for Reinstating the Rule of Law," discussed at the conference.
In Poland, a range of practical legislative and non-legislative actions have been undertaken to restore the rule of law. Minister Adam Bodnar presented the so-called Action Plan for the justice system to the EU General Affairs Council in February 2024. This includes amendments to laws such as those concerning the National Council of the Judiciary, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Tribunal, the so-called muzzle law, two laws related to the prosecution, and addressing the issue of neo-judges.
The conclusion of the procedure under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union and the unblocking of funds from the National Recovery Plan were expressions of recognition for the reform plan presented by Minister Adam Bodnar and the actions taken by Poland.
