Ministry of Justice becomes a new member of the Confederation of European Probation

07.06.2024

The Ministry of Justice has joined the Confederation of European Probation (CEP), an organization that brings together practitioners, managers, and researchers working in the field of probation and criminal justice across Europe.

“Our desire to join the CEP stems from the recognition of the value of sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices on an international platform,” said Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Ejchart in an interview with CEP.

The CEP aims to promote the social reintegration of offenders through community sanctions and measures such as probation supervision, mediation, and conciliation. It engages in raising the profile of probation and enhancing professionalism in this field at both national and European levels.

The Confederation promotes Europe-wide cooperation by organizing conferences on current probation issues, stimulating the exchange of views on judicial supervision. CEP members represent a unique network of expertise on positive ways of working with offenders. Their shared concern is how to protect society without incurring high costs associated with the imprisonment of offenders.

For European bodies like the European Union and the Council of Europe, the CEP serves as an advocate for the probation sector, providing expert knowledge and data for comparative analyses. The Ministry of Justice's inclusion in the organization is part of the process of restoring the rule of law in Poland and professionalizing the justice system's activities.
