14.11.2024
Deputy Minister of Justice Arkadiusz Myrcha met with a British delegation on November 14, 2024, led by the UK’s Deputy Minister of Justice, Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede.
The central point of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in Criminal Matters between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Poland and the Home Office and Ministry of Justice of the United Kingdom. The memorandum aims to strengthen bilateral relations and support the exchange of experiences in legal cooperation on criminal matters, as well as in the promotion and protection of human rights.
Under the terms of the memorandum, both parties committed to developing cooperation in the areas of mutual legal assistance, extradition, victim support, the exchange of criminal record information, and the transfer of convicted persons.
During the meeting, discussions also focused on prison reform and the possibility of enabling prisoners to serve sentences in their home countries while simplifying procedures related to the exchange of documentation in electronic form. Additionally, issues concerning investigations into Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine were addressed. Both sides expressed solidarity in efforts to hold perpetrators accountable under international law and support actions undertaken by the International Criminal Court.
Poland aims to deepen its cooperation with the United Kingdom by continuing dialogue at the working level and developing bilateral instruments, such as digitizing document workflows and enhancing collaboration in the penitentiary sector.
