Increase in readiness for DVB-T2/HEVC switchover
27.06.2022
According to the National Media Institute (NMI), the level of preparedness for the new terrestrial TV reception standard among NTC-only households was 67% in May, an increase of 6 pp compared to the March-April period this year. The number of households at risk of signal loss fell to 1.32 million in May, compared to 1.53 million at the end of April 2022.
In the area covered by stage 3 of the switchover ( 23 May 2022) and in the area where the switchover will take place on 27 June (stage 4), there was a significant increase in the level of preparedness of households for the new terrestrial TV broadcasting standard - to 64% and 65% respectively. In the areas covered by stages 1 and 2 of the switchover (switchovers on 28 March and 25 April 2022 respectively ), the level of preparedness for the new standard among households using terrestrial TV only did not change.
The NMI survey also showed a further increase in knowledge of the impact of the change in broadcasting standard. The transition to the new standard was associated even more strongly in May this year with a change in equipment. The need to purchase a set-top box or TV was indicated by 40% and 23% of NTC-only households respectively. Positive aspects of the change - such as an increase in the number of programmes or their better quality - were cited by less than one in three respondents in this group - 30% and 29% respectively.
Awareness of the change in broadcasting standard is currently confirmed by 86% of households in the "NTC-only" group. The main source of knowledge remains television - 57% and information provided by others - 26%.
The National Media Institute has been continuously measuring the state of households' preparation for the new terrestrial TV standard since autumn 2021. The next survey results on this topic will be published in July.
