A KRRiT booklet entitled "Fake news – online disinformation and attempts to counteract it viewed from the perspective of international institutions and selected EU Member States, including Poland", published in March 2021 as part of the KRRiT Observer series, was included in the collection of the KOMET@ Digital Library.
The KOMET@ Digital Library’s collection contains open-license documents and publications such as scientific articles, methods guidebooks and research reports. It also offers educational programs covering a wide range of media education and media literacy topics. The library is a collection of scientific/academic and popular scientific publications and teaching aids that is kept up to date.
The KRRiT booklet Fake news – online disinformation perfectly fits in with the subject matter of the compilations included in the digital library’s collection. It describes how fake news originates and why it spreads online. The booklet also discusses the measures undertaken by EU Member States, including Poland, and international organisations engaged in fact-checking or media education, which help internet users acquire the habit of approaching media content critically.
In mid-2017, the “Cities Online” Association launched the KOMET@ project, whose purpose was to integrate the community of media education experts in Poland. Network-based communications and information tools were constructed, as well as a platform for exchanging experiences and compilations, and presenting media educators’ recommendations and common positions.
This is the first initiative to have this community network. The online platform that was constructed (www.kometa.edu.pl) combines information and communications functions with a database of experts and a map indicating their locations. It houses the vast collection of the newly established KOMET@ Digital Library, which makes it easier to find publications scattered all over the internet, such as scientific articles, teaching materials, research reports and descriptions of good practices to be followed when improving media literacy skills.
