KRRiT research project on the presence of various family models in Polish movies and series
05.07.2022
The objective of the project is to analyse the presence of different types of families and the way they are presented in popular (in terms of viewership) film and television productions distributed in programs of the leading television broadcasters (TVP S.A., TVN S.A., Telewizja POLSAT Sp. z o. o.).
The planned monitoring is a continuation of the analysis of the image of women in Polish TV series conducted in 2020 and published on the KRRiT website:https://www.gov.pl/web/krrit/publikacja-krrit-i-uniwersytetu-im-mikolaja-kopernika-na-stronie-europejskiej-platformy-organow-regulacyjnych-epra
At that time, the study was carried out in connection with analyses - as part of the European Regulators Group (ERGA) - of indicators for EU Member States measuring the presence of women in different broadcast types.
The current research project will follow the same methodology and identical indicators. It will therefore not only be a continuation, but also an extension of the research area to include new contexts and relationships.
It will allow determining to what extent the presentation of different family models in series and film productions confirms stereotypes concerning the image of the family (gender, social roles of women, men and children) and to what extent it deviates from such stereotypes.
The planned monitoring will only be cognitive and analytical, not evaluative, and will answer the question as to what image of the family is presented in selected entertainment productions and, possibly, the origins of this image.
Its results will be published on the KRRiT website.
It should be emphasised that such research activities are set out in the KRRiT's statutory tasks (Article 6 of the Broadcasting Act). The research is also conducted by other regulatory bodies in Europe.
The procedure for estimating the value of the contract to carry out the research is currently pending.
