Brunei Darussalam
Diplomatic relations between Poland and Brunei Darussalam were established on March 20, 1996 .
Current relations
Due to the significant distance between Poland and Brunei Darussalam, the relations so far have not been very intensive. In 2004, the arrangements regarding mutual partial lifting of the visa requirement for passenger travelling between Poland and Brunei Darussalam took place. In 2013, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland was opened in the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. There is some potential for the development of cooperation in the defence industry. There were several visits on the government level by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the army of both countries. In 2013, Sikorsky-PZL Mielec completed a contract to supply of 12 Black Hawk helicopters. In December 2013, a MoU was signed on the development of defence cooperation.
Economic relations
Economic cooperation between Poland and Brunei Darussalam is very limited. Trade between Poland and Brunei is small. A high level of mutual trade was recorded once in 2013 - USD 6.65 million. According to the data of the Central Statistical Office, in terms of the value of Poland's exports to Brunei in 2018, it reached the value of PLN 7.9 million. Machine parts and poultry meat were mainly exported to Brunei. In the same year, Polish imports from Brunei Darussalam reached the value of only PLN424, 4 thousand. It is worth mentioning that some Polish products (e.g. machinery used in the food industry) do reach Brunei via Malaysian contractors.
Cultural cooperation
In May 2019, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuala Lumpur, together with Laksamana College of Business, organised the largest promotional campaign since Poland's diplomatic relations in Brunei Darussalam established in 1996. Polish Cultural Festival, which included the Festival of Polish Culinary Traditions, the exhibition "Tatars: Muslims in the Republic of Poland" and a lecture by the Polish Ambassador. In November 2019, the first ever Polish music concert took place in Brunei Darussalam.
Educational cooperation
Educational cooperation is symbolic. In November 2019, the Memorandum of Understanding on Academic and Scientific Cooperation was signed between Collegium Civitas in Warsaw and Laksamana College of Business at Bandar Seri Begawan.
Recognition of diploma
Brunei Darussalam has been a party to the Convention since 1987 abolishing the requirement to legalize foreign official documents of 1961. Therefore, to obtain a diploma, you must obtain an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam.
