The second edition of the “Poland – Malaysia FinTech Forum”

On 4 November, the second edition of the “Poland – Malaysia FinTech Forum” organised by the Embassy was held in Kuala Lumpur. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Asia School of Business (ASB), the Polish Investment and Trade Agency and the FinTech Poland Foundation. The continuation of the promotion of the Polish offer of technological and IT solutions for the financial sector (FinTech), including the banking sector with a B2B component, aimed to strengthen the image of Poland as an innovative economy.

The Embassy event was attended by, among others, representatives of the National Bank of Malaysia (Bank Negara Malaysia), the Malaysian agency for the digital economy (MyDigital), leading Malaysian banks (Maybank, HSBC, Standard Chartered Malaysia) and FinTech companies.

The event was opened by Ambassador Krzysztof Dobrowolski together with the Dean of ASB Sanjey Sarma. The introductory speech was given by Professor Lech Kurkliński, Deputy Director of the Institute of Corporate and Investment Finance and Head of the Department of Digital Finance FINTECH at the Warsaw School of Economics, who presented the FinTech sector in Poland, especially the area of payments, with particular emphasis on the Polish Payment Standard (BLIK operator). Prof. L. Kurkliński conducted an interesting and valuable comparison between Poland and Malaysia in terms of the characteristics of economies, banking standards and dominant trends in the field of FinTech. Presentations were also given by representatives of FinTech Poland (online), the Foreign Trade Office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

The Malaysian side was represented by the Finology initiative and the FinTech Association of Malaysia. The panel discussion was an opportunity to discuss the future of the industry in view of the changing regulatory environment, the entry of new players to the market, the growing threats to cybersecurity and the rapid development of new IT technologies in the field of finance (especially artificial intelligence), as well as the development of central bank digital currencies.

In the second part of the event, FinTech achievements and products were presented live by representatives of Polish companies associated in FinTech Poland: Billennium, TTMS and AssetCut, whereas the offers of SaaScada and Comply Wiser were presented online.
