Videoconference between the Chief Veterinary Officer of Poland and the Malaysian Veterinary Services (DVS)

On the 23rd of March 2021, at the initiative of the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate of Poland with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuala Lumpur, a videoconference was held with the Malaysian Veterinary Services (DVS) on combating ASF and ensuring the safety of meat and pork products.
The Poland’s Veterinary Inspectorate was represented by the Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Bogdan Konopka and the Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Katarzyna Piskorz as well as a team of experts. A representative of the Minister of Agriculture, Marta Syrek, participated in the videoconference. The Malaysian party was represented by the Deputy Director General of DVS, Dr. Akma binti Ngah Hamid, representatives of all 15 state DVS offices and field workers responsible for epidemiological and laboratory control. Meantime, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland was represented by Ambassador Krzysztof Dębnicki and the Head of Political and Economic Section, Mr. Maciej Tumulec.
In a 3.5-hour presentation, the representatives of the Poland’s Veterinary Inspectorate presented in detail the Poland’s experience in the fight against ASF and provided practical & technical advice to the Malaysian party (marking the boundaries of protection zones, shooting, handling of animal carcasses, disinfection of farms, compensation, procedures to stop the spread of diseases, etc.) and legislative solutions.
The videoconference was a good opportunity to present Poland’s pork sector and domestic export procedures in this regard.
