15.10.2021
On the occasion of 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Malta Polish Embassy invites for photo exhibition entitled 'Poles in Malta'. The exhibition can be seen surrounding Teatru Rjal in Valletta from October 14th until November 15th.
Fifty years ago, on 23 October 1971, Poland and Malta established diplomatic relations. Relationship between two countries has become stronger since the accession of Poland and Malta to the European Union in 2004.
Polish-Maltese contacts remain very lively. Many Poles have found their new home in Malta. They work in many different areas like culture and art, education, medicine, the economy and services. They engage in volunteering, too.
The Embassy of Poland in Valletta has prepared the photo exhibition ‘Poles in Malta’ to feature their work and contribution to the modern Malta. The people you can see in the pictures explain why they chose Malta to live, work and dream. Malta is the place of ‘sun’ and ‘friendly people’. These words come up in almost all stories.
Close links between our countries and peoples have a long tradition. The way of many Polish pilgrims going to the Holy Land led through Malta. Numerous Polish noble families had strong ties with Malta when the Knights Hospitaller stayed on the island. In the late 18th century Stefan Ittar, an architect of Polish origin, designed the National Library of Malta. Polish pilots and sailors bravely defended Malta during World War II.
The photos were taken by Arkadiusz Srebnik who studied at the Sopot School of Photography WFH in Poland and joined the Gdańsk Photographic Society in 2013. He has lived in Malta for a few years now.
