The 'Polish-Maltese Duets' performance graced the National Day of the Republic of Poland celebrated on the occasion of Independence Day

On November 10th, the Polish Embassy organized an event on the occasion of Independence Day and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Malta. The guest of honor was the President of Malta, George Vella, and his wife. The event was held on the representative part of the campus of the University of Malta in Valletta. After the official part, the gathered guests took part in the performance entitled 'Polish-Maltese Duets'.
The reception was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Evarist Bartolo, minister in the Office of the Prime Minister of Malta and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Carmelo Abela, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chris Cutajar and other representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malta, representatives of local economic and socio-cultural organizations, university, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the Polish community. During the reception, occasional speeches were made by the ambassador and the president of Malta.
Polish and Maltese artists took part in the performance entitled 'Polish-Maltese Duets'. A string quartet consisting of two Polish musicians (Emilia Wiśniewska, Mateusz Kuźma) and two Maltese musicians (Desiree Quitano, Stefan Calleja) played pieces by Polish and Maltese composers (S. Moniuszko, G. Bacewicz, W. Kazanecki, Ch. Camilleri). Polish and Maltese actors (Monika Jarosińska, Paul Portelli) read poetry by W. Szymborska and A. Cassar in Polish and Maltese (the works by W. Szymborska were translated into Maltese especially for this occasion). The performance ended with a modern dance show performed by the duo of Alicja Sośnia and Matthiew Cilia, who presented a choreography also prepared especially for this occasion.
