A great Polish celebrations in Estonia

- This is an extraordinary year and an unusual cruise of ‘Dar Młodzieży’ (‘The gift of Youth’) sailing ship. This year, very young people became Poland's ambassadors. This is a very important moment for all of us. In this way, we promote Poland in the world. The crew is very important - young people with passion - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defense during a meeting with the crew of the sailing ship ‘Dar Młodzieży’.

The meeting took place on Saturday in the port of Tallinn, which is the first port on the route of the Polish sailing ship.

As the minister said, the ‘Dar Młodzieży’ cruise is a special event that engages many people with passion. - People with passion and people who hope to connect their fates with the Navy or with the Merchant Marine. A great Polish holiday in Estonia. The centenary of the independence of Poland and Estonia. We have many connections. We are friends - said the head of the Defense Ministry.

Thanking the young people and the organizers of the cruise for their commitment, for undertaking this challenge, which is the promotion of our homeland, he stressed that Poles are the people who think about the future, but never forget their past.

During the meeting, Minister Blaszczak handed the occasional gifts to the captain and to the sailing ship's crew.

At the media briefing, the Defense Minister also summed up his meeting with the Minister of Defense of Estonia, which took place on Friday. As he emphasized the discussion was very interesting. The conversation with the Minister of Defense of Estonia and the Chief of Staff concerned projects to strengthen NATO's eastern flank and the forthcoming NATO summit.

- We are seeking, as our allies are, for greater presence of troops on NATO's eastern flank. Our work and our meetings result in the first signs that the US Senate is very serious about the increase in the number of US troops in Poland - said the head of the Defense Ministry.

Military musicians with applause

One of the attractions, enthusiastically received by the residents of Tallinn and the participants of the Independence Cruise, were performances by the artists of the Representative Artistic Ensemble and musicians of the Polish Army Orchestra under the baton of Maj Maciej Skrzypczak.

Their repertoire included patriotic songs and well-known entertainment hits.

On the streets of Estonian capital city Old Town, Polish soldiers presented the parade drill show, arousing applause from the audience.

"Tell the world how Poland is beautiful" - with these words on May 20, 2018, ‘Dar Młodzieży’ sailing ship was said goodbye and set off from Gdynia on a cruise around the world. The cruise takes place to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining independence.

During the almost one-year trip onboard the sailing ship there will be over 530 students and pupils of maritime schools and 400 winners of the competition related to the anniversary of Poland regaining its independence.

"Dar Młodzieży" will visit 22 ports, including: Tallin, Copenhagen, Stavanger, Bremenhaven, Bordeaux, Tenerife, Dakar, Cape Town, Mauritius, Jakarta, Singapore, Shanghai, Osaka, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Acapulco, Panama, Miami, Ponta Delgada and London.

In each of the ports along the way, events promoting Poland and its independence are to take place. The cruise will end in January 2019.
