10.05.2021

- I had the opportunity to talk with the Romanian Minister of Defense. I am grateful for being able to share my comments and thoughts. Thank you for the conversation that meets our expectations. Our friendly relations date back a long time (...) Our cooperation is very close - said Mariusz Błaszczak, Polish Minister of National Defense during the meeting with the Romanian Minister of Defense.

On Monday, May 10, in Romania the head of the Ministry of Polish National Defense participated in the first day of bilateral talks and the B9 summit chaired by the President of the Republic of Poland and the President of Romania.

- We are focused on what is happening today. For example - in parallel to our meeting, 500 Polish soldiers from the 6th Airborne Brigade participate in an exercise together with Romanian and other allied soldiers. Tomorrow, together with the presidents of our countries, we will also observe the military exercises of the North Atlantic Alliance, so we are active both in the NATO and EU formats - said the minister after meeting the Romanian Minister of Defense.

In the morning, Minister Mariusz Błaszczak participated in the plenary talks of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, with the President of Romania, Klaus Werner Iohannis.
In the afternoon, the head of the Ministry of National Defense met with his Romanian counterpart. During the talks, the defense ministers Mariusz Błaszczak and Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă raised issues related to military cooperation in the bilateral dimension and as part of allied cooperation, including further strengthening of security in the region of southern and eastern flank.

- We talked about cooperation between our countries. This cooperation is very close. Romanian soldiers are stationed in Poland, Polish soldiers are stationed in Romania. Romanian officers serve in NATO headquarters in Poland. Polish officers serve in the headquarters in Romania. We exchange experiences. Together, we are modernizing our armed forces. Like Romania, Poland is also in the process of modernizing its armed forces. (...) We also talked about the "Military Mobility" program, also in the context of enabling road and rail connections, which would not only strengthen military relations, but also economic relations - said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.

Meetings are held at various levels (presidents, foreign and defense ministers). The activity of B9 focuses on issues related to threats to NATO's eastern flank, methods of limiting them and seeking opportunities for cooperation between the countries of the region in this regard.
