Liberty Road project – we honor Polish-American fight for independence

"It is a significant moment not only because of the shared history of the Republic of Poland and the United States of America, but also due to the current international situation. Today, the whole world is greatly impacted by the war caused by unnecessary, unprovoked Russian aggression on Ukraine. Any attempts to rebuild Russian Empire have always meant spread of evil. We take our alliance responsibilities very seriously. This is why the Polish Armed Forces are continuously active on the entire NATO’s Eastern Flank. As our ancestors had shown us - independence is a value of the greatest importance” – said Deputy Prime Minister, the head of the Ministry of National Defence of Poland, Mariusz Błaszczak during the inauguration of the Liberty Road project.
On Sunday, September the 18th, at the Warsaw Rising Museum, Deputy Prime Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak took part in the Liberty Road project opening ceremony . Special guests of the event were, among others, a member of the United States House of Representatives, Marcy Kaptur, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, general Mark A. Milley.
The Liberty Road project is a Polish-American initiative, aimed at honoring long-lasting history of sacrifices made in a fight for independence of both our countries. The event was organized by the Warsaw Rising Museum and the United States Embassy in Poland.
During the event, a member of the United States House of Representatives, Marcy Kaptur and Jan Ołdakowski, the director of Warsaw Rising Museum, signed the founding act of the Liberty Road project.
Deputy Prime Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak underlined that today the significance of the free world’s reaction to the attempt of rebuilding Russian Empire should be the highest ever.
"We are building pathways of freedom, and thus, supporting our Ukrainian neighbors is so crucial. We do it consistently as the independence of Ukraine means also independence of Poland and Europe(…) The Polish Armed Forces are active on the entire NATO’s Eastern Flank because our ancestors had shown us that independence is a value of the greatest importance "
- said the head of the Ministry of National Defence.
The official launch the Liberty Road project coincides with the 78th anniversary of the operation Frantic7, under which, on September the 18th, 1944, 110 aircrafts of the American 8th Air Force conducted supply flights over uprising Warsaw to support insurgents in their fight.
Deputy Prime Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak added that Poland intends to systematically and continuously strengthen its armed forces and to establish more military units.
"Following the creation of the 18th Mechanised Division, modelled after American patterns and to be equipped with Abrams’ and Apaches, the 5th Mechanised Division will be established, mainly, in Podlaskie Voivodeship. The purpose of that is to deter aggressor and to secure European, and Polish safety"
- said Deputy Prime Minister.
The head of the Polish Ministry of Defence, mentioning Polish-American shared history noted that Poland takes alliance responsibilities very seriously.
"We take our alliance responsibilities very seriously. This is why on the 11th September , 2001, when the United States were attacked, the Polish Armed Forces were in full readiness and willingness to support our American friends in their foreign military missions"
