"We support Ukraine, as for us a free Ukraine is the guarantee of a free Poland. This was said by the late President Lech Kaczynski in 2008 in Georgia. (...) As we can see, the Russian empire, regardless of whether it is white, red or Putin's, is committing war crimes. It is the duty of the free world to oppose these tendencies to rebuild the empire. That is why Poland supports Ukraine. We are impressed by the bravery of Ukrainian soldiers, and we attempt to support Ukraine, but also refugees who want to find shelter in Poland. I am proud of the attitude of my nation." - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak said during a visit to Ukraine.
On Friday, February 3, the head of the Ministry of Defense visited Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.
A video conference organized by Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak and Ukrainian Defense Minister O. Reznikov with Allies was held in Kyiv.
The topic of the ministers' conversation was further military support for Ukraine.
The defense ministers' bilateral talks were focused on continued support for Ukraine and the security situation in the context of unprovoked Russian aggression.
Deputy Prime Minister Blaszczak stressed that talks continue in the format of countries that could transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine that defends itself against the invasion.
"Poland has assumed the role of forming a coalition of countries that are in a position to support Ukraine with Leopard tanks. Such an initiative was announced by President Andrzej Duda at a meeting with President Zelensky and the President of Lithuania in Lviv in January. I need to say that this initiative gains momentum. I am grateful to all the ministers of defense, but for it to accelerate, it requires some effort and work. Hence, I have decided that we will hold the next meeting of states in this format here in Kyiv, for which I thank Minister Reznikov very much. Heavy armored equipment is crucial for Ukraine to defend itself against Russian aggression. Declarations have been made on the part of our counterparts, the defense ministers of the countries that possess Leopard tanks, but we await a final declaration by mid-February."
- he stated.
"Every visit, every meeting we have, strengthens the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The real support that Ukraine is receiving gives the opportunity to defeat the enemy. Today, one of the topics of our talks was the tank coalition."
- Minister Reznikov said after the meeting.
Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak also discussed military cooperation with President Zelensky during his visit to Kyiv. In recognition of his services, Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak was awarded the "Order for Meritorious Service of the First Degree" by the President of Ukraine.
