Modification of the DEFENDER-Europe 20 exercise

In response to the current outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and recent guidance by the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of Defense, the US Command in Europe has decided to modify the DEFENDER-Europe 20 exercise.
According to the information provided by the US European Command, since March 13th all personnel and equipment movement from the USA to Europe has been suspended. However, it does not mean the end of the exercise. It will be still conducted in Poland - together with American soldiers who are already deployed in our country.
The Dynamic Front, Joint Warfighting Assessment, Saber Strike and Swift Response exercises linked to the DEFENDER-Europe 20 are canceled. The armored brigade combat team (ABCT) which is already deployed in Europe will conduct training within the scope that was agreed with the allies. That training will be done as a part of the modified Allied Spirit exercise.
Poland is in constant contact with its allies, together we are analyzing the possibilities of military cooperation during exercises. Our priority is to limit the spread of the coronavirus epidemics.
The purpose of DEFENDER-Europe 20 is to build strategic readiness by deploying a combat credible force to Europe in support of NATO and the U.S. National Defense Strategy. There are currently about 4,000 American soldiers and 1,550 units of equipment in Poland to participate in the DEFENDER-Europe 20 exercise. In order to deploy them at Polish training grounds, a huge and very efficient cooperation of military logistics specialists was carried out.
US soldiers are also stationed in our country as part of eFP and ABCT.
