Paweł Ksawery Zalewski, Secretary of State

Paweł Ksawery Zalewski

Born on September 25, 1964 in Warsaw. He is a politician, historian and entrepreneur, member of the Polish Sejm in its 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th and 10th term, member of the European Parliament in its 7th term (2009 – 2014).

He began his political activism during the years of martial law in Poland. It is at this time that he had joined the underground „Pokolenie” („Generation”) publishing house, established by his friends from the Joachim Lelewel’s high school, where he was enrolled.

In September 1989 he had accepted the offer of prof. Henryk Samsonowicz and became one of the first two employees of the Ministry of National Education connected to the „Solidarity” movement. In 1991 he has successfully campaigned for a seat in the Sejm in the first free elections. For him, politics was always about serving the public, and so beyond the duties of a parliamentarian he has pursued his professional goals as a teaching assistant at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and then as a business advisor.

During the 5th term of the Sejm he was the chairman of the Sejm committee on Foreign Affairs.

In this term of the Sejm he is the deputy chairman of this committee. In the Szymon Hołownia’s Poland 2050 party he is primarily entrusted with matters of international policy and the European Union
