Poland among the leaders of support for Ukraine

11.08.2022

“Poland wants Ukraine to be independent, that we border independent Ukraine. Hence, we support Ukraine. It is very good that another format has been created to coordinate support for Ukraine. The greatest threat facing Ukraine, but also the countries neighbouring Russia, is that the free world will get tired of information about the war (...) Our task should be to maintain the world's interest in the fact that Russia is aggressive and intends to rebuild its empire” - said Mariusz Błaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence in Copenhagen.

On Thursday, August the 11th  in Copenhagen, Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak took part in the conference of donors of support for Ukraine. The event was co-organized by the defence ministers of Denmark, Great Britain and Ukraine.

“Poland supports Ukraine in the form of donations concerning, inter alia, military equipment. We also support by organizing training for Ukrainians. Indeed, other countries are increasing this scope through financial donations. This is very good, because it allows Ukraine to be strengthened in the face of the Russian attack. All these activities should be coordinated so that they are effective, and Ukraine repels Russian aggression"

- said the head of the Ministry of National Defence after the talks.

Ukraine's Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov and the defence ministers of Northern Europe took part in the talks. The meeting discussed the war in Ukraine caused by the Russian aggression against that country, joint efforts to organize and coordinate support for Ukraine, and the strengthening of cooperation between Ukraine and the countries of Northern Europe. Conference participants also focused on discussing further support and long-term cooperation, including training of soldiers in the Ukrainian armed forces.

“In my speech, representing Poland, I pointed out that there are countries that declare a lot and do little. By this I wanted to emphasize how important the independence of Ukraine is for the free world. President Zelensky mentioned this, he also mentioned what Russia is doing in the event of an attempt to take control of a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, and what its consequences could be for the security of the whole of Europe. He said that Russia uses terrorist methods to attack Ukraine. It is all important to maintain security, freedom and independence in Europe"

- emphasized Deputy Prime Minister M. Błaszczak.

The donors' conference complements the work and discussions within the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, which was established by the USA in March this year at the US Air Base in Ramstein, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Copenhagen conference was a complementary format to other initiatives related to the coordination of support for Ukraine.

“This format complements other activities related to the coordination of support for Ukraine. We are talking in NATO, but there is also a wider format chaired by US Secretary of State Lloyd Austin. It is a format that goes far beyond the 30 NATO countries. This format, coordinated by the British and the Danes, is a format that complements in a way all activities that are undertaken within the framework of the North Atlantic Alliance or outside it. We also have to remember about the EU format, which is, to put it simply, the weakest point. The European Union talks a lot and does little. We remind the European Commission of the tasks that arise from providing security to the Member States of the European Union"

- said Deputy Prime Minister M. Błaszczak after the conference.
