Polish-Lithuanian intergovernmental consultations in Vilnius

– One of the topics of my today’s conversation with the Minister of National Defence of Lithuania were issues related with ensuring the security of the eastern flank of NATO. An important element and factor in this process is cooperation with the USA. The agreement on the permanent and enhanced presence of US troops in Poland undoubtedly deters a potential aggressor and positively effects the security of NATO's eastern flank – stated Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence after the meeting with the Minister of National Defence of Lithuania.
On Thursday, September 17, Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence took part in Polish-Lithuanian intergovernmental consultations in Vilnius chaired by Prime Ministers of Poland and Lithuania.
Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, during the discussion with the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence, presented assumptions of the Polish-American agreement, which is currently ratified by the Polish Sejm, and which concerns the permanent, enhanced presence of US troops in Poland – the permanent, enhanced presence of US troops is good for Poland, Lithuania and the entire eastern flank of NATO – emphasized Minister Błaszczak.
Minister Mariusz Błaszczak also discussed with Minister Raimundas Karoblis plans for future military cooperation. Poland and Lithuania – underlined Minister Błaszczak – cooperate on several levels, mainly on the organization ofmilitary exercises – it is bilateral and NATO cooperation. Minister Mariusz Błaszczak emphasized that Polish and Lithuanian soldiers cooperate every day in the headquarters in Elbląg and in the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade in Lublin.
One of the topics was also the situation in Belarus.
Cooperation in the region, security issues on the eastern flank of NATO were discussed as well during the meeting of Prime Ministers of Poland and Lithuania – Mateusz Morawiecki and Saulius Skvernelis.
